Fisher To Speak At Fund-Raiser

The Women Helping Women Fund went for major star power this year. The group hired Princess Leia herself to speak at its annual benefit luncheon.

Well, actually, it’s Carrie Fisher, the actress who played that white-gowned, coiled-bunned “Star Wars” princess, and who has moved on to become a talented author, screenwriter and producer.

The event will be at 11:30 a.m. May 6 at the Spokane Convention Center. It will benefit 14 area women’s and children’s organizations. This non-profit group has raised more than $550,000 since 1993 to support similar programs in the Spokane area.

Fisher has also starred in Woody Allen’s “Hannah and Her Sisters,” and “When Harry Met Sally.” Her recent films have been “Sibling Rivalry” and “Drop Dead Fred.”

For more information about the luncheon, which has a suggested minimum donation of $100, call 747-0802.
