Uaw Ready For Strikes At 5 Parts Plants
United Auto Workers will go on strike this morning at five plants that supply parts to General Motors Co. and Ford Motor Co. unless a contract agreement is reached by then, the union said Sunday.
A strike by 7,200 Auto Workers would shut down five American Axle & Manufacturing Inc. plants. The union said a strike would begin at 7 a.m. if there is no contract.
American Axle and the union began marathon contract talks Friday morning in advance of an 11:59 p.m. Friday strike deadline. The two sides still were meeting Sunday night, UAW spokesman Reg McGhee said.
