Hornets’ Hargrove Hammers Cougars In 17-5 Win

Harvey Hargrove singled, doubled and hit a home run to account for four runs in Cal-State Sacramento’s 17-5 win over Washington State in a non-conference baseball game Monday at Hornet Field in Sacramento.

CSS (5-7) banged out 18 hits.

Steve Gleason had a three-run triple in WSU’s five-run sixth inning and Shawn Stevenson had three singles for the Cougars, one delivering Gleason with WSU’s final run.

Youth hockey

Spokane defeated Tri-Cities 7-2 Monday at Eagles Ice-A-Rena to win the Midget Division of the Pacific Northwest Amateur Hockey Association State B championships.

Steve Jones had three goals and Tom Schweda three assists to lead Spokane, which went through the tournament for 16-18-year-olds unbeaten after compiling an unbeaten league season.

Sno-Kings of Seattle won the Bantam State B title, beating Tri-Cities 5-3. Spokane was third.

Women’s basketball

Idaho freshman Alli Nieman, who had 36 points in a win over Nevada Sunday in Moscow, is the Big West Conference women’s player of the week for the second time this season.
