Georgia Denies Florida Sec Crown

Kedra Holland-Corn scored 29 points, including the decisive three-point play with 5 seconds left as No. 5 Georgia beat No. 10 Florida 66-64 Wednesday at Gainesville, Fla.

The victory secured first place for the Bulldogs in the Southeastern Conference and virtually assured Georgia (21-4, 10-1) its second straight conference championship.

The Bulldogs also denied Florida (18-7, 8-3) a possibility of its first-ever SEC title.

Reserve Pam Irwin hit a critical 3-pointer for the Bulldogs to tie the game 63-63 with 43 seconds left.

At Durham, N.C., Monick Foote scored 23 points in the first 30 minutes as the Cavaliers defeated the Blue Devils.

Tora Suber added 18 points, Mimi McKinney 15 and DeMya Walker 13 for the Cavaliers (20-5, 12-3 Atlanta Coast Conference). Virginia, which closes its season Sunday at No. 4 North Carolina (17-8, 9-6), guaranteed it can finish no worse than second in the ACC and gave coach Debbie Ryan her 14th consecutive 20-victory season.

At Fayetteville, Ark., Elaine Powell scored seven of her 22 points in the last 5 minutes in the Tigers’ win.

With Powell leading the way, LSU (22-3, 8-3 Southeastern Conference) went on a 15-8 run to pull away from a three-point lead over the Razorbacks (17-8, 5-6). Arkansas led 37-32 at halftime after a seesaw first half that saw five lead changes and two ties.
