Officers To Offer Blood-Alcohol Tests

From Staff And Wire Reports

The Coeur d’Alene police C.A.R.E. team will be giving bar patrons a chance to test their blood-alcohol level tonight in order to raise awareness about drunken driving.

Officers will be at the Fort Grounds Tavern from 5 to 7 p.m. with a device that measures the alcohol level in a person’s blood.

It is against the law to drive a vehicle with a blood-alcohol level of 0.10 percent or higher. But police say people are often unaware of what that level feels like.

Drinkers will be allowed to test their blood-alcohol level for free.

Officers say tonight’s event is not intended to get bar patrons in trouble, but is instead intended to educate them about when they shouldn’t be driving.

The C.A.R.E. team - Community Accident Reduction through Education - is a group of police officers whose goal is to reduce the number of vehicle accidents in Coeur d’Alene.
