Workshop To Educate Parents About TV

From Staff And Wire Reports

Suggesting that parents can learn how to “take charge” of their televisions, the local cable TV company is inviting people to participate in a March workshop.

Coeur d’Alene is one of 10 cities throughout the country chosen to participate in the Family and Community Critical Viewing Project, said Donna O’Connell, education coordinator for Century Communications.

In connection with that, up to 75 people can participate in the free workshop on March 15 at North Idaho College. The morning session will address such questions as:

What are the four points to remember as you watch TV?

What are the five things to teach your children about commercials?

What are critical viewing skills and media literacy?

The afternoon session will provide training for those who want to conduct similar workshops.

People can register by calling O’Connell at 664-1003.

The project is co-sponsored by the National Parent and Teacher Association, Cable in the Classroom and the National Cable Television Association. , DataTimes
