Performances Lend Reality To ‘Prefontaine’

By The Spokesman-Review

In straining to capture the authenticity so inherent in his “Hoop Dreams,” director Steve James pushes “Prefontaine” a bit too far at times. Yet behind decent performances by R. Lee Ermey (as running guru Bill Bowerman) and Jared Leto as Oregon running legend Steve Prefontaine, James manages to capture a feeling of reality that augments this tearful, yet stirring, tale of a great athlete who dies young. , DataTimes ILLUSTRATION: Photo
