Eagles Claim First Crown In 16 Years

Frontier League girls

West Valley captured its first outright Frontier League girls basketball title in 16 years Friday with a 51-41 win over visiting Colville.

Angie Kallas hit four 3-pointers for the Eagles (16-2, 11-0), who have won 16 consecutive games. WV’s 1980-81 team won the title outright; the following year’s team tied Clarkston for the crown. The Eagles hadn’t reached the top since.

The league season ends tonight. The Eagles receive an opening-round bye to the District 7-AA Tournament, which begins Friday at West Valley and East Valley.

WV shot 33 percent from the floor, but committed just 10 turnovers to Colville’s 21. Melissa Wollan had three 3-pointers and Sarah Evans 13 rebounds for the Indians (6-13, 3-8).
