Ben Eggleston Chewelah Year: Senior Sport: Wrestling Weight: 215 Pounds

Chewelah’s district champ and regional third-place finisher found himself in select company at Mat Classic IX.

Just 10 Spokane-area wrestlers reached the finals of their respective State AAA, AA and A tournaments and Eggleston was one of two champions.

“I wanted it my senior year,” said Eggleston. “Last year I screwed around.”

After a district title, Davenport’s Matt Schneider set him back in the regional semifinals. But in Tacoma, Eggleston completed a 35-5 year by taking less than a minute to pin his finals foe.

“There were better wrestlers from our league,” said Eggleston. “Schneider was tough.”

Schneider didn’t avoid the head and arm of Forks’ Ryan McReynolds. Eggleston did by tying up inside and taking his final opponent to his back.

Eggleston, who went three and out last year at state, won three matches by pin and another by injury default.
