Seahawks Eye Blades

Compiled From Wire Services

The Seattle Seahawks are offering 30-year-old Bennie Blades the chance of his NFL lifetime a chance to team up with brother Brian this season. The Detroit Lions safety, an unrestricted free agent, is pondering an offer to be the Seahawks’ starting strong safety.

The problem is trying to fit Bennie into a tight salary cap. The Seahawks know they can’t fit the demands of current unsigned strong safety Robert Blackmon into next fall’s payroll. He wants more than $2 million a year.

The Seahawks have less than $1 million of cap room, and that doesn’t include a rookie salary pool for a draft that includes two first-round selections.
