Sheriff’s Deputy Warns About Unlocked Buildings

Janice Podsada Staff writer

Unlocked houses and sheds in the southwest part of the county have recently made easy targets for burglars.

No matter how secure the neighborhood or how remote the location, sheriff’s deputy Dave Reagan said, “people should lock their doors.”

Last Thursday afternoon an unlocked house in the 112000 block of South Lakehurst, near Silver Lake, was burglarized.

The homeowner reported that a jewelry box, a camera and two watches were stolen.

Three blocks away, in the 10900 block of South Lakehurst, someone broke into an unlocked storage shed at the Eastern Washington Bible Camp. The break-in was discovered Feb. 19.

Several items, including a $150 Makita screw gun and a $250 air compressor, were taken from the shed.

On Sunday, someone entered an unlocked shop in the 16700 block of Malloy Prairie and made off with $500 worth of tools. The owner of the shed said burglars took a set of Craftsman sockets, a portable drill, and a fishing tackle box and its contents.

Burglar bags games, Jordan poster

A burglar who apparently is a sports fan broke into a house in the 22000 block of West Elm last week.

A poster of basketball star Michael Jordan and a sports duffle bag were taken in the Feb. 19 burglary.

Also stolen were a Nintendo 64 system, and “Super Mario” and “Stars” game cartridges.

The homeowner said she left the house about 8 a.m. and returned three hours later to find that someone had entered the residence through a kitchen window.

She said knickknacks that normally sit on the windowsill had been knocked to the floor. Muddy footprints covered the kitchen counter and floor.

The homeowner estimated the value of the missing items at $350.
