Deadline To Apply For Flood Aid Nears

Compiled From Wire Services

March 5 is the last day to apply for federal flood disaster money, Idaho Gov. Phil Batt said.

Winter storms did significant damage in North Idaho and in the southwestern part of the state. State taxpayers are providing matching funds for federal disaster relief for these areas, Batt said.

However, once March 5 passes, there are no second chances.

“Idaho flood victims are in danger of losing their right to be paid for flood damages,” Batt said. “I urge you not to ignore this rapidly approaching deadline.”

People can get federal assistance by calling the Federal Emergency Management Agency at (800) 462-9029. The application process requires about 15 minutes and most people are asked to fill out an application for a low-interest loan.

People are not required to accept the loan, but must fill out the application in order to be considered for other types of assistance such as grants.
