Newborn Boy Found At Family’s Front Door

Compiled From Wire Services

A father and daughter who heard sounds outside their house early Thursday morning opened the door to find an abandoned newborn.

Wrapped only in a thin hospital gown, an 8-pound, 4-ounce healthy redheaded boy was lying on a concrete slab at the front door of David Summers’ home.

A 17-year-old in the house, kept awake by illness, walked downstairs to alert her father.

“I’m really happy we found the kid when we did,” Summers said.

The baby was warm to the touch and so recently born he still had mucus on him. Police doubt he was born in a hospital. His umbilical cord appeared to have been pulled apart rather than cut.

Area hospitals reported no recent disappearances or discharges that match the case.

Summers said he could not think of anyone he knows who was expecting a baby. He added it is possible someone knew his brother was a physician.
