Attorney Sentenced For Intimidation

Compiled From Wire Services

Attorney J. John Alegria admitted on Tuesday that he intimidated a witness during an arson trial last spring and was sentenced to 10 days in jail and 40 hours of community service.

Fifth District Judge Barry Wood also ordered the Boise lawyer to pay $375 in fines and restitution and serve two years probation. Wood suspended another 170 days of jail time.

Alegria pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge in connection with his attempt to convince a witness against his client to recant testimony that his client was at the scene of one of the fires he was accused of setting.

The defendant was eventually convicted.
