Eagles Player Under Investigation

From Wire Reports

Police in Millbrae, Calif., are investigating reports by a San Francisco woman that she was sexually assaulted by a Philadelphia Eagles player, hours before the 49ers hosted the Eagles in Sunday’s first-round playoff game.

The woman told police that she was attacked late Saturday night in a room at the Eagles’ hotel, the Westin adjacent to San Francisco International Airport, by a man she believed to be a player.

The Eagles, whose traveling party is composed of approximately 120 people, released a statement Tuesday saying police indicated the investigation “does not involve a member of the club’s 53-man roster, injured-reserve list, coaching staff or front office.”

That does not rule out the five-man practice squad, however, and police confirmed Tuesday that the alleged attacker is a player. Police did not disclose his status with the team.

Young says he’ll play

Elvis Grbac took all the practice snaps in place of sore-ribbed Steve Young on Tuesday as the San Francisco 49ers began three days of playoff preparations in Tempe, Ariz.

“It’s been a little rough the last couple of days,” said Young, who injured his ribs when hit while running for a touchdown in Sunday’s 14-0 wild-card victory over Philadelphia.

“They’re sore. I’m not going to practice today but I expect to practice tomorrow,” Young said before going out to watch the team’s practice at the Arizona Cardinals’ training facility in Tempe.

Young was still listed as questionable for Saturday’s NFC divisional playoff game at Green Bay.

Beebe, too, says he’ll play

Don Beebe, the star of Green Bay’s regular-season victory over the San Francisco 49ers, is listed as questionable for Saturday’s playoff rematch at Green Bay, Wis., with a hamstring injury.

Beebe, who set career highs with 11 catches for 220 yards in the Packers’ 23-20 overtime victory over the 49ers on Oct. 14, said he expects to play “unless I do something worse to it the rest of the week.”
