Cathedral Will Celebrate Feast Of Epiphany

A celebration of the Feast of the Epiphany will be at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th.

The celebration will begin with a brief service in the cathedral, followed by a procession with lighted lanterns to the cathedral’s great hall for a Mexican potluck dinner.

A special king’s cake filled with coins and other treasures will be served for dessert. Children will have the opportunity to break open pinatas filled with candy.

Families are asked to bring either a Mexican hot dish or taco ingredients.

‘Roots and Branches’

The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist is also offering a class on the Episcopalian faith called “Roots and Branches,” beginning Monday.

The class will meet each Monday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. until March 24.

The class is geared toward those new to the Episcopalian faith or those who are preparing for the sacraments of baptism or confirmation.

It will explore what it means to be an Episcopalian in today’s world.

Epiphany service planned at St. Stephen’s

Animals and children will participate in a procession during a special Epiphany worship service at 10 a.m. Sunday at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 5720 S. Perry.

Breakfast will be served at 8:45 a.m., followed by singing and a drama about the three kings.

Emmanuel Lutheran plans Epiphany party

An Epiphany party will be held at 4 p.m Sunday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 314 S. Spruce.

People are invited to bring a few branches from their Christmas tree, which will be burned in the parking lot as a way to celebrate the end of the Christmas season.

Christmas carols will be sung, and refreshments will be served.

Financial seminar planned

“Your Finances in Changing Times,” a seminar presented by Christian Financial Concepts, will be offered Jan. 10 and 11 at First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Cedar.

The seminar is designed to help people develop a financial plan, improve communication about finances and plan a personal budget.

The seminar will be from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Jan. 10 and 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Jan 11. Registration is $30 for singles and $45 for married couples.

Child care will be available if requested in advance.
