U.S. Diplomats Asked To Leave India

The government is asking two U.S. envoys to leave India following an alleged improper meeting with the country’s intelligence chief, the Hindustan Times reported Thursday.

The diplomats were not identified, but one was said to be the station chief of the Central Intelligence Agency.

The decision to ask them to leave quietly was taken following meetings with Rattan Sehgal, the head of the Anti-Espionage Department of the Intelligence Bureau, the paper said.

The U.S. Embassy said the story was “an internal Indian government matter,” and refused further comment. The Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman was not available for comment.
