Boston College Spoils Effort By Seton Hall Frosh

Associated Press

Danya Abrams scored 20 points and grabbed 14 rebounds Saturday night to lead No. 25 Boston College to an 80-64 victory over Seton Hall, offsetting a standout performance by freshman guard Shaheen Holloway.

Holloway scored a career-high 31 points and tied the Big East record for 3-pointers in a game with nine. The record was held by Dana Barros of Boston College, who did it in 1989, and Ray Allen of Connecticut, who did it last season.

Holloway’s performance was not enough to offset Boston College’s 51-21 rebound advantage or that four of Abrams’ teammates also scored in double figures.

Leading 9-8, the Eagles (8-2, 3-1) took control of the game with a 21-5 burst.

Scoonie Penn ignited the run with a 3-pointer then Abrams scored on a putback and Mickey Curley hit a short jumper for a 16-8 lead.

Levell Sanders interrupted with a free throw for Seton Hall (6-6, 1-3), but Duane Woodward worked free inside for a layup and Curley got another putback to make it 20-9.

Andy Bedard and Penn sandwiched 3-pointers around a turnaround by Abrams to give the Eagles a 30-13 lead with 7:02 remaining in the half.

The Eagles, who led 41-26 at halftime, enjoyed a 31-7 edge on the glass.
