Four Vehicles Involved In Chain Reaction Crash Three Cars Slide, Collide On Ice, Then Are Hit By Greyhound Bus

Icy roads contributed to a chain reaction of accidents that involved three cars and a Greyhound bus Saturday but ended with no serious injuries.

All the vehicles were westbound on Interstate 90 at about 9:20 Saturday morning.

The collisions began when a Ford Escort driven by Kathryn L. Reierson, 23, of Missoula, spun out on an icy patch of the highway, struck the center guardrail and stopped, according to an Idaho State Police report.

A Plymouth Voyager driven by Wanda J. Hunter, 39, of Puyallup, Wash., also spun out and struck the guardrail and was then struck by a car driven by Sherry L. Loeser, 19, of Polson, Mont.

The two cars came to rest in the middle of the highway, according to the ISP report. Kent A. Myers, 32, of Gresham, Ore., was able to slow his Ford Explorer down and come to a stop without hitting any of the three cars.

But then a Greyhound bus, driven by Gary H. Saben, 47, of Olympia, came down the icy highway. It ran into the Loeser, Hunter and Reierson vehicles.

Loeser’s vehicle was embedded in the front of the bus, according to the ISP report. Hunter’s vehicle came to rest touching the rear of the bus. The fender and bumper of the Loeser vehicle were torn off and embedded in the Reierson vehicle.

Five people were injured, including an 8-year-old boy, but none of the injuries was serious, according to the ISP report. All were treated and released from a local hospital.
