Sweet-Shooting West Valley Wins

High school basketball

There was no talk about homecourt advantage Saturday, when West Valley’s boys played their final non-league game before they open Frontier League play.

Josh Sweet scored 32 points, including 6-of-13 shooting on 3-pointers, and the visiting Eagles (5-2) used a 16-5 scoring edge at the free-throw line to beat Lakeland (2-2) 73-68 at Rathdrum, Idaho.

Sweet made 8 of 11 free throws. Lakeland’s Jared Mudge scored 28, with 5-of-8 shooting from 3-point range, and added eight rebounds.

Adam Miller scored 23 points, helped by 8-of-12 shooting from the field in the first half, to guide the visiting Bears (3-3) over the Greyhounds (4-2) in a non-leaguer.

Shawn Richards had seven of Moscow’s 35 rebounds. Aron Cummings and Serign Marong had six rebounds apiece for Pullman, which beat Moscow by five earlier in the year.

James Spotted Horse, returning from a two-game disciplinary suspension, scored 35 on 15-of-17 shooting from the field to guide the Knights over the Australian visitors in an exhibition.

Spotted Horse scored 24 in the first half. Reserve Troy Hansen added 25 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the floor, including 4 of 6 3-pointers. Aaron Harris had 13 rebounds and Mitch Johnson eight assists for EV.

Christa Brossman hit four of her team’s seven free throws down the stretch and the Greyhounds (2-6) beat the visiting Bears in a non-leaguer to avenge an overtime loss earlier in the season.

Pullman led by eight midway through the fourth quarter, but Moscow pulled even at 39. Deb Curry had 10 rebounds, and Leah Wilde 18 points and nine rebounds for Pullman. For Moscow, Amber Matthews had six rebounds and Tami Goetz four assists and four steals.
