Boston Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield was resting at his Melbourne, Fla., home after being hit by a car while jogging. Wakefield was near his home when a car approached from behind. The driver, Betty Carlstrand, 75, struck the pitcher with the passenger side of her 1988 Chrysler. Despite rolling over the top of the car and hitting his head on the pavement, Wakefield suffered no broken bones. Carlstrand was ticketed for reckless driving… . The Oakland A’s and San Francisco Giants addressed their catching situations, with Oakland acquiring Dave Valle and San Francisco picking up Damon Berryhill. The A’s also signed right-handed pitcher Richie Lewis. All three players signed minor-league contracts and will be invited to spring training as non-roster players.
