Cougar Killed For Attacking Dogs, Man At His Home

From Staff And Wire Reports

A Peshastin man was scratched but not seriously injured in a confrontation with a cougar attacking dogs outside his home.

Wildlife agents responding to a call from Roy Parks shot the animal with a tranquilizing dart Monday night. It later was euthanized, so it could be tested for the presence of rabies.

Parks told agents the cougar attacked one of his dogs in a garage, then went after another dog. Parks hit the cougar with his fist to get him to stop. The cougar whirled around and swiped at Parks’ arm, scratching it, said Bob Perleberg of the state Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Tissue samples of the cat’s brain were taken by a veterinarian Tuesday and sent to a laboratory for analysis. The fully grown cat appeared to be about 2 years old.

One of Parks’ dogs died in the attack.
