Fearless Lee Lifts Cv

GSL girls

You’re on the free throw line, team trailing by one, 7.4 seconds to play.

No fear.

Judging by the way Crystal Lee swished the free throws and flashed her radiant smile long after the game at Gonzaga Prep Tuesday night, there wasn’t anything for Central Valley to worry about.

“This was like a ‘No Fear’ shirt,” she said.

But… .

“I was nervous because I was in a free throw slump all season. I worked hard on my free throws trying to get out of my slump,” she added. “I was glad I got the opportunity to be the one.”

Gonzaga Prep had taken a 56-55 lead on Jennifer Williams’ putback with 54 seconds to play and had a chance to pad its lead before missing three free throws and finishing 3 of 12 from the line.

On the last miss, Lee was fouled, and Prep never got a chance to answer her winning free throws.

“We’re real dejected we lost, but confidence-wise that was the third big game we’ve played … at least we improved how we played in big games. It’s still only Jan. 7,” Prep coach Mike Arte said.

CV (4-1, 7-2) raced to an early lead by matching the Bullpups (2-2, 5-3) on the boards and was up 31-28 at intermission, thanks to 12 points each from Lee and Rikki Jackson.

Prep dominated the boards in the third quarter to stay close, and in the fourth quarter the lead changed hands eight times as Prep’s 5-6 Dani Thorn scored eight of her 10 points.CV answered with huge 3-point shots from Andrea Kallas, Jackson and Jenny Coyle.
