Marquette Hands Cyclones First Loss

Aaron Hutchins scored 20 points and Anthony Pieper made a steal and two late free throws as Marquette handed No. 4 Iowa State its first loss of the season, 67-64 Tuesday night in Ames, Iowa.

Marquette (10-2) rallied from a seven-point deficit early in the second half, then held off the Cyclones (10-1) after building an eight-point lead.

Marquette has an eight-game winning streak.

(3) Kentucky 90, Mississippi St. 61

Derek Anderson scored 10 of his 26 points during a 12-2 run that sparked the Wildcats (7-8, 2-0 Southeastern Conference) over the Bulldogs (7-8, 1-1) in Lexington, Ky.

The Bulldogs turned the ball over a season-high 31 times, which Kentucky converted into 36 points.

(5) Clemson 86, (10) Duke 82, OT

In Clemson, S.C., the Tigers (13-1, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) used a 7-0 run to take control in overtime and beat the Blue Devils (11-3, 2-1).

Terrell McIntyre of Clemson made two free throws to tie the game 76-76 with 8 seconds left in regulation. Greg Newton of Duke (11-3, 2-1) was left alone under the basket but fumbled away a pass from Steve Wojciechowski with 2.8 seconds to go.

Wojciechowski opened the overtime with a 3-pointer but that was it for Duke’s scoring.

Dayton 98, (12) Xavier, Ohio 91

Darnell Hoskins scored a career-high 30 points and the Flyers (6-4, 1-1 Atlantic 10) upset the Musketeers (10-1, 1-1) in Dayton, Ohio.

Danya Abrams scored 28 points and the Eagles (9-2, 4-1 Big East) held off a late rally by the Orangemen (8-6, 0-4) in Syracuse, N.Y.
