Sheriff’s deputies were searching Thursday for a man who shot out the windows of a car driving north on Nine Mile Road.
The woman driving the car wasn’t injured, authorities said.
She told deputies she heard a bang when her driver’s side window shattered Wednesday evening, but she didn’t realize the car had been shot at until she stopped at Nine Mile Store.
Her passenger’s side windows and rear hatchback window were also shot out.
Deputies believe the boyfriend of a woman who initially called authorities is responsible for the drive-by shooting.
That woman claimed she was the victim of a carjacking, telling deputies a man forced his way into her car about 7:15 p.m. at a stoplight on Northwest Boulevard.
She said he drove north on Nine Mile Road and threatened her with her boyfriend’s rifle, which was on the back seat.
The woman said the man ran the car into a snowbank while firing the rifle at another vehicle, purportedly because it was tailgating.
Deputies interviewing the woman said they found inconsistencies in her story. They later determined that her boyfriend, whose name was withheld, was shooting at the car on Nine Mile Road.
