Rules Of The Road Don’t Protect Boy

Parents teach their kids to look both ways when they cross the street. One Spokane Valley boy did, and he still got hurt.

Thirteen-year-old Joseph Parker was hit by a car Thursday morning near 31st and Woodlawn as he was walking to catch a school bus.

“I was almost across the street, and he (the driver) was making a turn when he hit me on my right side,” the boy said Thursday night. “He stopped, looked back at me and sped off.”

The boy suffered a slight fracture and bruises on his right leg. He was treated and released at Valley Hospital and Medical Center.

The Washington State Patrol is looking for the hit-and-run driver, described as a white man with long brown hair. The car was a brown Oldsmobile.

“What bothers me is that this guy didn’t even get out to see if he was all right,” said Lois Cottle, the boy’s mother. “I’ve also got an 8-year-old, and now I’m worried about him walking to catch the bus.”
