Mark Sanford had 18 points, 13 in the second half, and Donald Watts scored seven of Washington’s final nine points as the Huskies fought back to beat Oregon State 77-72 in a Pac-10 game Thursday night.

Trailing by 16 points in the first half and by 34-25 at halftime, the Huskies (8-3 overall, 1-2 in the Pac-10) had a 70-60 lead with 2:51 to go, but the Beavers (4-7, 0-2) didn’t quit.

Oregon State got to within 73-70 after Ron Grady’s 3-pointer with 56.6 seconds left, but Chris Thompson and Watts each hit two free throws in the final 54 seconds for the Huskies.

In the second half, Oregon State was in front 37-30 before the Huskies went on an 11-0 run for a 41-37 lead with 4:42 gone.

The Beavers lost their 10th straight Pac-10 road game and their 13th overall on the road.

(21) Stanford 109, UCLA 61

Toby Bailey didn’t see much difference in the way UCLA played, even though the result was staggering - the worst defeat in its storied history.

The Bruins never recovered from a horrendous start that saw them trailing the Cardinal (9-2, 2-1) 17-1 in the game’s opening minutes.

“This team didn’t play that badly,” Bailey said. “We were doing all right. They were just playing extremely well. They could have beat some pro teams the way they were shooting. When they drill those 3-pointers in your face, that’s kind of demoralizing.”

UCLA (7-4, 2-1) has won a record 11 NCAA championships. But its 48-point loss surpassed its previous worst defeat of 38 points, 102-64 to Arizona in 1989.

“If you would have told me we would have won by 48 points, I would have said, ‘Never,”’ Stanford’s Brevin Knight said after scoring 25 points. “When things are clicking like that, anything can happen.”
