Whiz Kids To Close Downtown Store

From Staff And Wire Reports

An educational toy store is closing its downtown Spokane location, citing a dismal retail environment.

“It’s very simple. Downtown’s not cutting it,” said Rae Huslid, owner of Whiz Kids, 518 W. Riverside. “When you’re losing money, you can’t survive.”

Whiz Kids will close its 3,000-square-foot store by the end of January and will begin a going out-of-business sale next week. Remaining merchandise will be moved to the Franklin Park Mall Whiz Kids store on North Division.

The Franklin Park store has been open 10 years, and the downtown location, four years. Huslid has great hopes for Franklin Park, which she said has been revitalized recently.

“It’s a very nice friendly neighborhood mall,” she said. “There’s no parking problem. It’s in and out so easily.”
