Italian Wins Men’s Downhill

Kristian Ghedina of Italy won a World Cup men’s downhill by the slimmest possible margin - .01 second - at Chamonix, France.

Ghedina was timed in 2 minutes, 1.56 seconds, just ahead of Norwegian Atle Skaardal. Austrian Werner Franz was third.

After foul weather forced cancellation of two races, Heidi Zurbriggen of Switzerland won a World Cup women’s downhill at Bad Kleinkirchheim, Austria. Hilde Gerg of Germany finished second and Austria’s Stefanie Schuster was third.

Lloyd Langlois of Canada won a men’s aerials World Cup freestyle ski competition at Lake Placid, N.Y.
