Lewiston Finds Its Touch, Beats Vikings

 

Rebounding from its first loss of the year, Lewiston (11-1, 2-1) shot 54 percent from the field Saturday to beat visiting Coeur d’Alene 74-37 in an Inland Empire League girls basketball game.

Lewiston’s Erin Benson and Sara McEachern combined to hit 12 of 17 field goals. The Bengals, who lost to Lake City on Thursday, outrebounded the Vikings (4-10, 0-2) 38-19, including 10 for Brooke Cushman.

CdA freshman Andrea Wilkey had seven rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Amber Paulson and Kara Braniff combined for 15 rebounds and the visiting Badgers (9-1, 6-0) forced 19 turnovers to hand the Bears (5-6, 2-1) just their second league loss in six years.

The score went back and forth from midway through the fourth quarter, but BF had clutch steals and rebounds to hold on. Moscow’s Anna Allen hit three 3-pointers.

Adam Miller scored 22 as the visiting Bears (4-3, 3-0) beat the Badgers (4-4, 1-2) to take a 1-1/2-game lead over St. Maries and Lakeland in the league’s early going.

Moscow’s 10-point, third-quarter lead shrunk to two with 4 minutes left in the game. The Bears ran a delay, drew fouls and hit the necessary free throws to stop the rally.

Adam Hiatt scored 26, Brian Meeker had 12 rebounds and Jesse Ross five assists for BF.

Wrestling

Nathan Pascoe again beat Tyson Thivierge, but Clarkston rebounded for a 33-32 non-league win over Lakeland, at Rathdrum.

In a rematch of the Tri-State 171-pound final, also won by Lakeland’s Pascoe, Thivierge fell 7-3. The win put the Hawks ahead 32-24, but Clarkston won the final two matches. Will Johnson’s takedown with 10 seconds left beat Lakeland’s Levi Cushman 8-7 at 189.
