Nic Wrestlers Capture 4 Titles

North Idaho College wrestled its way to four individual titles Saturday at the Clackamas Open tournament in Clackamas, Ore.

“That was our best performance of the year,” said Cardinals coach John Owen. “I’m very pleased with the way things turned out for us.”

NIC’s Tony Gomez took first in the 126-pound weight class with a 5-2 decision over Chet Blakefield, who wrestled unattached.

Jessie Schaeffer beat teammate Lyle Cronk 6-3, to give the Cardinals a 1-2 finish at 134 pounds.

The other two first-place finishes went to Ben Shane (150), a 6-4 winner over Pacific Lutheran’s Tim Avery, and Josh Clausen (190), a 9-3 winner over Highline’s Tim Blain.

Former Gonzaga Prep standout Tim Bliss, who wrestles at 177 pounds for Pacific Lutheran, decisioned NIC’s Trevor Trangley 5-3 in the title match.

Cardinals heavyweight Aaron McArthur placed second to Oregon State’s Mike McCarver.
