Larroquette, Selleck To Star In Sitcoms On Cbs

Another NBC star, John Larroquette, has moved over to CBS, where he will star in a sitcom for midseason next year, CBS Entertainment president Leslie Moonves announced Monday.

And Tom Selleck will headline a CBS sitcom for the fall, which will likely get a Monday or Wednesday berth, Moonves told reporters gathered in Pasadena for the winter television press tour.

In addition, Steven Bochco’s first project under his CBS pact, which became official Jan. 1, will be a cop show set in New York, Moonves said. Moonves promised that the new drama series, “Brooklyn South” will “push the envelope” concerning content in much the same way as Bochco’s other New York-based cop series, “NYPD Blue,” on ABC; the new drama series will probably get a TV-14 rating under the new content ratings system that went into effect this month.

Larroquette, who starred for three seasons on NBC’s “The John Larroquette Show” after eight years on the peacock’s successful sitcom “Night Court,” will join former NBC colleagues Bill Cosby, Ted Danson and Rhea Perlman on the eye network next season. Moonves said there was as yet no concept for Larroquette’s latest series; he declined to discuss the concept for Selleck’s new show.

Reiterating his commitment to CBS’ struggling Friday sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond,” Moonves announced he has picked up four more episodes of the series, bringing its season order to 22 episodes. “Raymond” will get a tryout in another time slot, the exec added, but did not specify which.

Also, “Easy Streets” which was yanked off CBS’ schedule after one Sunday and one Wednesday broadcast, will return in March or April, Moonves said, but did not suggest a time slot.

Midseason sitcom “Temporarily Yours,” starring Debi Mazar and Joanna Gleason, is likely for the Wednesday 8:30 p.m. time slot, giving “Pearl” a temporary rest.
