Martin Luther King Day Events

Martin Luther King Day is next Monday. Several related events - all free - are planned in coming days:

Wednesday

“A Celebration of Peace,” reflections on the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., starts at 7 p.m. at Gonzaga University’s Jesuit House. For more information, call Bob Bartlett at 328-4220, ext. 4108.

A Unity March takes place at 5 p.m. at Washington State University’s Multicultural Center in Pullman. The march will be followed by a program at the CUB Auditorium featuring the Seattle choir Shades of Unity.

Sunday

Multicultural Exhibition, Spokane Community College, 1810 N. Greene St., 3 to 5 p.m. Call the Martin Luther King Jr. Family Outreach Center at 455-8722 for more information.

Public Unity Celebration, Spokane Community College, 5 to 7 p.m.

Monday

Public Unity March, from the Federal Courthouse to the Spokane Opera House, 10 a.m. Call 455-8722 for more information.

Martin Luther King Center Open House, 845 S. Sherman St., 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. A children’s program will be held from noon to 1 p.m.

Tuesday, Jan. 21

Flip Schulke, personal photographer and friend of Martin Luther King Jr., will present a 7 p.m. slide-show narration at Trent Elementary School, 3303 N. Pines Road.

Wednesday, Jan. 22

Schulke will sign books and present a shorter version of his slide show, 7 p.m. at Auntie’s Bookstore, 402 W. Main St.

Thursday, Jan. 23

Schulke will present a 7 p.m. slide-show narration at Ferris High School, 3020 E. 37th Ave.

Thursday, Jan. 30

Yolanda King, the eldest daughter of Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, will speak at 7 p.m. at the Met, 901 W. Sprague Ave.
