Rubin Remarks Bolster Dollar

Associated Press

The dollar touched a 28-month high against the mark and rose in most other foreign-exchange dealings Monday after Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin reaffirmed his support for a strong U.S. currency.

It was the first time this year that a high-ranking Clinton administration official has publicly reiterated the longstanding U.S. position on the dollar, and came against a backdrop of growing global demand for the currency due to the health of the U.S. economy and stock market.
