Offensive Help On Way As Sandpoint Star Returns

As Carson Jeffres goes, so goes the Sandpoint High boys basketball team.

At least that’s what the record shows.

Before Jeffres suffered what at the time was thought to be a season-ending knee injury in late December, the Bulldogs were 4-1.

Since he was sidelined, the Bulldogs are 2-6.

The good news, though, is that Jeffres is expected to play Friday when Sandpoint plays host to Lewiston. He returned to practice Monday. His return at this time gives Sandpoint time to iron out some offensive problems before the regional tournament.

When Jeffres left, so did 17.8 points per game - and most of Sandpoint’s threat from the perimeter. However, coach Jack Dyck has refused to use Jeffres’ absence as an excuse for the Bulldogs’ up-and-down play.

But at least Jeffres has returned. When doctors cut open his knee two weeks ago, they discovered his ligament tear was minor. Arthroscopic surgery fixed the problem.

Jeffres has been nagged by injuries the past two seasons.

“He should be just as good as he was before when he returns,” Dyck said.
