Dollar Slumps Vs. Japanese Yen
The dollar ended mostly higher Thursday but fell against the yen after Japanese leaders expressed concern about the yen’s weakness and rumors swept the market that Japan’s central bank was selling dollars.
Market disappointment over Britain’s decision to leave interest rates unchanged also helped the dollar, as traders who had purchased pounds in anticipation of a rate increase sold pounds and bought dollars instead.
But many traders focused on the possibility of intervention by the Bank of Japan, which could act to shore up the yen’s value.
