Calcavecchia Holds Lead

Mark Calcavecchia birdied five of the last six holes to shoot a 6-under-par 66 at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic and go to 19-under 197 for the tournament at Indian Wells, Calif., one shot in front of Jay Don Blake.

It was another four shots back to a group of five players tied at 202. Former Pullman resident Kirk Triplett is at 204.

Arnold Palmer has left the Mayo Clinic, two days after surgery for prostate cancer, and returned to his home in Orlando, Fla., the clinic said.

“Both he and his doctors are very pleased with the results of Wednesday’s surgery,” the clinic said in a statement.

Gil Morgan overcame a steady wind to shoot a par 72 and take a one-stroke lead in the Mastercard Championship.

With the wind gusting up to 40 mph, the field of 24 players - limited to winners on last year’s Senior PGA Tour struggled on the Hualalai Golf Club in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.

At Lake Buena Vista, Fla., Michelle McGann made short birdie putts on all four of the par 5s at Disney’s Lake Buena Vista Course in Florida, helping her to a 6-under-par 66 and a two-shot lead in the first round of the HealthSouth Inaugural.
