Man Killed After Slipping On Ice, Falling In Car’s Path

From Staff And Wire Reports

An Ephrata man was killed late Friday when he slipped on an icy road and fell in front of an oncoming car.

Claudio Bastida was trying to move out of the way of the car when he fell, said Grant County Sheriff William A. Wiester. The car was not able to stop in time and hit Bastida, Wiester said.

The car’s 16-year-old driver was not injured. His name was not released.

Wiester said Bastida, whose age was not available, was talking to a motorist who had stopped to check on him. The driver warned Bastida of the approaching car, but freezing rain that was falling at the time of the accident caused him to slip.
