Most Idaho Schools Get Good Report Cards Coeur D’Alene, Rathdrum And Kellogg Schools Are Singled Out For Merit Status

Associated Press

Only 10 Idaho public or private schools were warned about problems that might threaten their status, but none lost accreditation, according to annual reports submitted to the state Board of Education.

Separate reports on elementary schools and middle/junior highs and high schools considered by the board on Wednesday indicated this is the first time since the 1991-92 school year that no schools have been dropped from the accreditation rolls.

Reasons why schools are cited range from classroom crowding and inadequate materials to health and safety concerns about school buildings.

Among elementary schools, one private and four public schools were warned about problems identified in previous years that had not been resolved by last fall’s assessment.

They are Central Canyon Elementary in the Vallivue School District, Weippe Elementary-Middle School in the Orofino Joint School District, Pine Elementary in Mountain Home, Tetonia Elementary in the Teton County School District and the private Challenger Day Care in Post Falls.

Five junior highs and high schools also received warnings. They are Boise High School, Garden Valley Junior/Senior High School, Jefferson Junior High and Preston High School, both in Preston, and Jerome Middle School.

Meanwhile, 11 junior highs and high schools were approved with merit and seven others were nominated for merit review.

In the Twin Falls School District, Twin Falls High and Vera C. O’Leary Junior High were approved with merit and Robert Stuart Junior High was nominated for merit review.

Others receiving merit status are Lowell Scott Middle School in Meridian, Franklin Junior High and Highland High in Pocatello, Blackfoot High School, Gooding High School, Canfield Middle School in Coeur d’Alene, Lakeland High in Rathdrum, American Falls High School and Kellogg Middle School.

Those nominated for merit review are Bishop Kelly High School in Boise, Cascade High School, Coeur d’Alene High School, Lakes Middle School in Coeur d’Alene, Sandcreek Middle School in Idaho Falls and William Thomas Middle School in American Falls.
