Gingrich Undecided On How To Pay Fine

Compiled From Wire Services

Speaker Newt Gingrich said Thursday that he has not decided how he will pay a $300,000 fine imposed on him by the House this week in conjunction with a formal reprimand for his admitted ethics violations.

In his first news conference since the House vote, Gingrich said his lawyers were still reviewing his payment options, but he vowed that whatever method he chooses will be “legal and ethical.”

“Until the attorneys are done, I won’t have any other comment on that,” he added.

He turned away questions about the ethics case that has shadowed him since he rose to become speaker more than two years ago.

“At some point, at an appropriate time in the future, I intend to give a speech and take questions on that.”
