Pierce’s Floor Exercise Win Rallies U-Hi Past Rival Cv

Riding a streak of 25 straight Greater Spokane League four-way gymnastics victories, University didn’t exactly sweep the floor with its foes Thursday night at U-Hi.

But the Titans did rally to upend Central Valley 166.6 to 166.45 behind Coleen Pierce’s 9.3 win in the floor routine to keep the streak alive. Rogers (6-12) finished with 135.45 points and Shadle Park (2-16) had 119.15.

U-Hi (18-0), without Kalie Cossette, actually trailed CV (12-6) heading into the final event, the floor. Lindsay Linerud of CV scored a 9.2 for second place.

Tara Holbert of U-Hi won the vault and the bars. Linerud of CV captured the all-around after winning the beam.

At Lewis and Clark, second-place Ferris captured the other four-way behind Kasey Frederickson’s all-around victory.

The Saxons (16-2) had 167.5, followed by Mead (11-7) at 159.25, North Central (7-11) at 151.25 and Lewis and Clark (0-18) at 127.35.

Clarkston 66, Riverside 57

Aaron Jelinek sank 10 straight free throws in the fourth quarter as the Bantams rallied to beat the Rams in a Frontier League game at Clarkston.

Clarkston (10-1, 3-1), which trailed by five at halftime, outscored Riverside 21-9 in the third quarter behind a suffocating defense.

J.D. Burns had 17 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Bantams. Adam Johnson also had 17 points.

Riverside (3-10, 1-4) was led by Ryan Monroe’s 23.

The Rams (8-5, 4-1) outscored the Bantams (2-9, 1-3) 20-5 from the freethrow line and forced 28 turnovers to win the Frontier League game at Clarkston.

Abbey Wood paced Riverside with 17 points.

Frontier wrestling

Brad Crockett pinned Paul Murray in a battle of undefeated wrestlers at 141 pounds, helping visiting East Valley whip Riverside 67-12.

EV improved to 4-0 while Riverside slipped to 0-4.

At Cheney, Aaron LaRock pinned Jay Myers in 20 seconds, using a near-side cradle in their 122-pound match, to highlight Clarkston’s 48-21 victory over the Blackhawks.

Mike Gibson kept rolling at 141 pounds for Clarkston (3-1), getting six takedowns in a 19-4 technical fall over Nick Maxwell.

Cheney fell to 0-4.

At West Valley, Colville (2-1) rolled over the Eagles (3-1) 50-13. Chris Lynds won 7-5 at 158 pounds in overtime and Ben Lowery won 20-18 at 178 with a two-point near fall with 5 seconds left.
