Kmc Picks Patsy Sorenson As Employee Of The Month

Patsy Sorenson, a Coeur d’Alene resident who has worked at Kootenai Medical Center for almost 30 years, has been chosen as the KMC Employee of the Month for January.

Sorenson, a nurse at KMC’s North Idaho Cancer Center, was cited for being a role model and demonstrating a high level of professionalism, patient concern and support of co-workers.

Jim Windisch and Kari Wilson, both Lake City High School seniors, have been chosen as the Coeur d’Alene Rotary’s Students of the Month for December and January.

Windisch, a dedicated academic student, is active in music, theater arts, 4-H, Young Volunteers in Action, Idaho Drug Free Youth and Youth Court. He also serves as student body president and is a past sophomore and freshman class president.

Windisch represented the school at Boys State last year and is cited for his concern for others and community awareness.

Wilson, a 4.0 grade-point average honor student, is active in National Honor Society, Idaho Drug Free Youth, and Youth Volunteers in Action, and has been a tutor for elementary students.

Wilson is also active in volleyball and varsity softball while maintaining a part-time job at the Hayden Lake Library.

The winners of the Lakes Middle School Geography Bee held earlier this month have been announced.

First place: Victor McFarland, a seventh-grader and two-time school winner. Second place: Joe Brooks, sixth grade. Third place: Derek Smith, sixth grade.

McFarland will take a written test and advance to the state competition if he posts one of the 100 top scores throughout the state. Students who advance past state competition will travel to Washington, D.C., and compete in the national competition with a chance to win a $25,000 college scholarship.

This was the fifth year the school has participated in the event, which is sponsored by National Geographic and Sylvan Learning Centers.
