North Idaho Wrestlers Make Quick Work Of Simon Fraser

North Idaho improved its dual record to 12-2 with a 33-9 non-league wrestling win Friday night over visiting Simon Fraser.

In the most entertaining match of the night, Simon Fraser’s Dan Igsli, a 158-pounder, scored a takedown in overtime to edge former Mead high school standout Josh Morton 17-15.

NIC’s Jessie Schaefer (134) had two second-period takedowns to edge Andrew Blomgern 8-6.

NIC’s next home match is Friday against Northwest Wyoming.

Prep wrestling

Central Valley pulled back into a three-way tie for first place in the Greater Spokane League by crushing host Ferris 51-6 Friday night.

The Bears won the first six matches and were never threatened as they pulled even with Gonzaga Prep and University atop the standings with a 6-1 mark.

College skiing

Two hundred racers from six area colleges are expected for a Northwest Collegiate Ski Association competition today and Sunday at Mount Spokane.

Skiers from host Whitworth, Gonzaga, Eastern Washington, Washington State, Idaho and Whitman, as well as several Canadians, will compete in slalom races both days from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
