Off-Target Ewu Falls To Weber

Area women’s basketball

On a Friday night when baskets were hard to come by, Eastern Washington came up on the short end of a 52-50 Big Sky Conference game with Weber State in Cheney.

EWU shot just 28 percent (13 of 47) from the floor, including 3 of 22 from 3-point range. Weber State wasn’t much better, connecting on 16 of 50 (32 percent).

Tanya Kirk led the Eagles with 16 points, but she was 1 of 12 from 3-point range. Teammate Tracy Ford added 15 points.

The Wildcats’ Stephanie Sorenson led all scorers with 23.

Lynn Brown hit all six of her free throws in overtime to lead the Lions to a West Coast Conference victory over the Bulldogs in Los Angeles.

Gonzaga’s Chelsea Herman buried a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.

Lydia Ledgerwood led the Bulldogs with 12 points. Chelsea Herman scored 11, while Melissa McCullough and Staci Andrews each had 10.

The Pirates fizzled down the stretch during regulation and continued to play flat in overtime against the Pioneers at the Whitworth Fieldhouse.

Lewis & Clark (4-10, 3-4 Northwest Conference) scored the first nine points in overtime and took a 60-51 lead with 1:53 left. LC’s 6-foot-2 junior center, Stacey Cottle, burned Whitworth (6-9, 2-5) twice from inside during the spurt. Cottle tied the game at 51 with 14 seconds left in regulation when she hit a layup over Sherri Northington.
