Street Musicians Protest Fiesta Ban
Breaking windows and smashing furniture, hundreds of street musicians stormed city hall to protest a new ban on their street-corner rock concerts.
Police said at least 30 people were injured in Friday’s protest in Nezahualcoyotl, a largely poor city of 1.4 million people on the east side of Mexico City.
Musicians had been staging weekend fiestas there for more than a decade. When control of the city changed hands in November elections, the new administrators banned the fiestas, saying drunken, drugged revelers were annoying residents of the area.
