Fritz Strobl and Werner Franz, who looks like a habitual runner-up, finished 1-2 in the famed Hahnenkamm downhill at Kitzbuehel, Austria, the toughest race on the men’s World Cup ski circuit.

Strobl, only fifth in Friday’s two-heat sprint downhill, won in 1 minute, 51.58 seconds. Franz was second for the fifth time this season in 1:52.15. Frenchman Luc Alphand was third.

At Cortina D’ampezzo, Italy, Italy’s Isolde Kostner won her second race in 24 hours, edging Sweden’s Pernilla Wiberg by a tenth of a second in a women’s World Cup super giant slalom race. Sweden’s Katja Seizinger was third.

At Breckenridge, Colo., teenager Joe Pack of Park City, Utah, jumping at one of his favorite venues, fought through a snowstorm to win his first World Cup aerials contest and all but earned a berth in next week’s world championships.

Mike Jacoby of Hood River, Ore., won the parallel slalom for the second American gold of the FIS World Snowboard Championships in San Candido, Italy.
