Grandmother Denies Jonbenet Abused

Compiled From Wire Services

Slain beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey got a bruise on her arm when her hamster cage fell on top of her, not as a result of child abuse, her grandmother told Time magazine.

Police have identified no suspects in the 6-year-old girl’s death.

The grandmother, Nedra Paugh, of Roswell, Ga., disputes allegations that JonBenet was abused before her murder on Dec. 26, Time reports in its Feb. 3 issue.

“I know all about what happened,” the grandmother said in describing the bruise. “I was there. JonBenet had climbed up on a stool to look at her hamsters in their cage, and she somehow pulled the whole cage down on top of her.”

JonBenet, a former Little Miss Colorado, was found strangled in the basement of the Ramseys’ 15-room home.
