Motel Blaze Kills 5, Injures Firefighter

A suspicious fire raced through a motel in this Denver suburb early Monday, killing five people and injuring a firefighter who fell through the roof.

Witnesses ran door to door at the two-story La Hacienda motel rousting people from bed after the fire broke out about 2:30 a.m.

The blaze destroyed at least 70 of the motel’s 107 rooms and displaced about 100 people.

Two firefighters fell through the roof and one suffered a leg injury.
