Ex-Bombing Suspect Files Libel Suit
Nearly six months after finding himself in the bold, black type of a front-page headline, Richard Jewell filed a libel suit on Tuesday against the Atlanta newspapers that first proclaimed him a suspect in last summer’s bombing in Centennial Olympic Park.
Also on Tuesday, Jewell’s lawyers announced their second settlement with a television network.
The lawyers and a spokesman for Cable News Network said the network had agreed to pay an undisclosed amount to Jewell and his mother to forestall a lawsuit.
Last month, NBC reached an out-of-court settlement with Jewell, paying him an amount that The Wall Street Journal reported as being more than $500,000.
