Teens Investigated In Car Burglaries

From Staff And Wire Reports

Coeur d’Alene police are trying to determine if two boys arrested for allegedly breaking into a car Sunday are involved in other recent automobile burglaries.

The boys, ages 15 and 17, were spotted about 9:15 p.m. in the Super 1 Foods parking lot, near a car that had been burglarized. The pair spotted police and took off running through a field north of the parking lot, said Capt. Carl Bergh.

Officers chased and captured the two. Along the path through the field, police found the items allegedly stolen from the car.

The juveniles told police that the items must have been discarded by the officers running in front of them. Police, however, found only two sets of tracks in the snow, Bergh said.

Police obtained a search warrant for a car used by the pair and are attempting to determine if the contents of the vehicle were stolen. They also are investigating the possibility that the teens were involved in other auto burglaries in the area over the weekend.
